Research and Development Manager

Job Description:

Addison Group is looking for R&D Manager who can lead the development of new  products and related accessories. Someone who can serve as the technical leader of a team of polymer and mechanical engineers providing thought leadership, mentoring and organizational leadership of the group. Builds competitive advantages for our client with new high temperature polymer compound formulations, polymer extrusion processes, and cable designs. Drives the team with a disciplined process to work efficiently and urgently to meet product launch goals.


  • Bachelors degree in chemical or polymer related field (Master's or PhD preferred)
  • 10+ years of polymer compounding and technical leadership experience
  • Strong experience with extrusion process development and characterization
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment for evaluating and characterizing polymers
  • Knowledge of best practices for wire and cable design and manufacturing
  • Mastery of statistical process verification techniques and design of experiments
  • Proven track record of building and retaining a talented and effective team
  • Strong project management skills and experience
  • Strong communication, documentation and presentation skills

R&D Manager Responsibilities:

  • Lead the selection and formulation of new polymer compounds with specific performance properties
  • Create, in conjunction with the manufacturing team, well-characterized cable manufacturing and polymer extrusion processes
  • Manage the workload and efficiency of the team with an organized metric-driven approach that shows continuous improvement
  • Manage new product development projects using a stage-gate development process and a collaborative cross-functional approach
  • Communicate technical vision, project goals, and project status to executive leadership
  • Hire talented and driven engineers to build the team as needed
  • Mentor team members with a hands-on approach and leadership by example
  • Professionally engage with customers as needed on novel and unique new opportunities or challenging non-routine technical support issues.
