Benefits & Payroll Specialist

Our client, a growing international company in Brooklyn is looking for a Payroll Specialist due to internal growth. This is a publicly traded organization with 1 Billion in annual revenue. They have a track record of promoting internally and anticipate continued growth in 2018.

Responsibilities for the Benefits and Payroll Specialist will include:

Benefits Responsibilities:

  • Provide new employees with an explanation of benefits and instruct them on enrollment and fulfillment procedures
  • Administrate COBRA, LOAs, FMLA usage and other issues as required by our in-house regulations and legal requirements
  • Assist employee with enrolling in medical, dental and vision insurance plans
  • Inform employees of changes to the benefits structure
  • Handle all workers compensation claims
  • Have a full understand of NY employment laws regarding HIPPA
  • Work with insurance broker on claim issues
  • Resolve employee issues with insurance providers and other benefits administrators
  • Consult with employees about eligibility and other issues
  • Make sure employees who are eligible for enrollment are entered on time.
  • Review bi-weekly payroll deductions
  • Provide ongoing support for benefits and HR teams
  • Process enrollments quickly and accurately
  • Cooperate with other HR professionals when required


Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit paper payroll checks for employees who do not have direct deposit
  • Collect banking information for direct deposit setup and initiate deposits on paydays
  • Familiarize yourself and keep current with the taxation of salaries, benefits and other factors
  • Process and monitor garnishment orders and other issues that impact payroll specifications
  • Maintain and document all payroll records
  • Conduct semi-annual audits of all payroll records
  • Reconcile general ledger with regard to payroll transactions
  • Detect and process issues related to uncollected payroll
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns


Skills required for the Benefits and Payroll Specialist:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in benefits and payroll, 5 years preferred
  • Experience with payroll processing and wage attachment
  • Excellent organization and mathematical skills
  • Familiarity with Windows-based computer programs a must
  • Familiarity with payroll and benefits software systems as well as ADP
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
