Clinical Coder

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Medical Coder is responsible for performing outpatient and/or inpatient medical coding and billing functions
  • Review medical record documentation and medical claims to ensure the complete coding of all relevant procedures, diagnoses, and modifiers
  • Medical Coder must code and abstract Evaluation and Management (E&M) visits, diagnoses and procedures according to the current International Classification of Disease, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM or ICD-10-CM) and Physician's Current Procedural Terminology, current edition (CPT/HCPCS) rules and principles and coding guidelines
  • Medical Coder is responsible for resolution of any issues or questions with physicians, patients, billing departments and third party payers
  • Medical Coder uses Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook/Power Point), medical/EMR software, payer portals, and type 40+WPM

 

Requirements

  • Medical Coder must have 1+ years performing medical coding for multispecialty physician and hospital services
  • Medical Coder needs certification in one or more of the following through AAPC or AHIMA: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Medical Coder must have knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 Coding
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook/Power Point), payer portals, & electronic medical records (EMR) software
  • Ability to type 40+WPM required (alphanumeric & 10-key typing)
