Compensation Benefits Specialist

Responsible for administration of employee benefits within company operations.  Provides guidance and assistance to all locations on various employee benefit plans & Wellness Program.  Works with agent/broker to determine company’s competitive position in employee benefits.  Develops, recommends, and installs approved, new, or modified plans and employee benefit policies and supervises administration of existing plans.  Develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to company and employee.



  1. Administers employee compensation and benefit programs including Employee Bonus, Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan, Medical plan, Life insurance, Voluntary supplemental benefit plans
  2. Evaluates and compares existing company benefits; develops specific recommendations for review by management to maintain uniform benefit package for all company locations
  3. Develops census data for quotations; evaluates quotations and makes recommendations to management; develops company cost information for new plans and makes recommendations to management concerning sharing of cost between employer and employee
  4. Installs approved new plans and changes by preparing announcement material, booklets and other media for communicating new plans to employees.  Conducts employee meetings and arranges for enrollment of employees in optional plans.  Conducts employee benefit seminars.  Revises/reissues all communications material on benefits.  Advises and counsels management and employees on existing benefits.
  5. Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies.  Instructs insurance carriers, trustees and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in benefit program.  
  6. Assures company compliance with provisions of ERISA.  Supervises preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies.  Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits and reports necessary or suggested changes to management.
  7. Assures that existing and new benefit programs are adaptable to standardized computer and reporting systems.  Develops benefit information, statistical and census data for insurance carriers and management.
  8. Handles benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution.  
  9. Maintains enrollment, application and claim records for all benefit plans.
  10. Administrates Safety and Workers Compensation Program. Conducts Workers Compensation and General Liability Audit.
  11. Wellness Program; coordinates implementation of programs & wellness newsletters.  Provides recommendations to management related to wellness.



Assists HR Department with related HR Department tasks & provides support to each member as needed.



  1. Requires a bachelor’s degree and five (5) years experience in Benefits Administration  OR
  2. A Master’s degree in HR Management & four (4) years experience in Benefits Administration OR
  3. Any appropriate combination of education and experience



  1. To perform related duties of this job, the individual must be able to read, write and communicate using telephone, email, fax & Internet
  2. Visual requirements involve being able to view PC screen and read reduced printed reports
  3. The person must be able to speak English and hear
  4. To performs related duties require individual to sit for long periods at a time while using hands to enter information into a computer, use phone system and/or typewriter



General Office: The work environment decribed here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  May travel to visit benefit providers & other corporate locations.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time (3-4 hours at a time).  The employee is frequently required to use hands for typing, 10-key operation, telephone dialing, feeling objects, tools, or controls.  Must be able to see, talk & hear.
