Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Retrospective CDI Specialist to support a Vizient improvement initiative. This contract-only role focuses on retrospective DRG validation, compliant query generation, and clinical documentation accuracy. The ideal candidate will have strong CDI expertise, be comfortable working independently in a high-volume environment, and demonstrate proficiency in clinical validation and denial prevention.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform retrospective CDI reviews with a focus on DRG validation
- Review accounts assigned through work queues by CDI leadership
- Validate DRGs to ensure accurate coding and documentation compliance
- Compose, edit, send, and follow up on physician queries using compliant templates
- Ensure adherence to AHIMA/ACDIS query guidelines
- Collaborate with leadership to support accurate reporting and project outcomes
- Meet productivity expectations (8–10 DRG validations per day, subject to change)
Qualifications:
- An active Clinical Documentation Improvement Certification is required. Example: Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
- An active Registered Nursing License is required
- An active Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required
- A minimum of 3-5 years of Clinical Documentation Improvement experience required
- A minimum of 1-2 years of Second Level Review experience with in Clinical Documentation Improvement is required
- Strong experience with clinical validation denials and appeal support while serving as a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist
- Preferred experience with Vizient Metrics and Outlier Analysis
- A minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience conducting Mortality reviews, specifically, as a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist
- Prior Clinical Documentation Improvement contract experience preferred
- Strong understanding of compliant query practices
- Ability to quickly adapt and work independently
- A minimum requirement of working in a large acute care, academic hospital, while holding the title of a Remote Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist

- Openings: 5
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, flexible start time between 6am–9am CST (8-hour shift)
- Contract: Minimum 6 months, likely extension based on project performance
- Training: ~1 week (project-specific workflow)
