Job Description:
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support general accounting functions, grant administration, financial reporting, and month-end close activities. This individual will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring grant expenditures, preparing financial reports, and supporting annual audit activities.
The ideal candidate is someone who is eager to learn, adaptable, organized, and interested in building a long-term career in accounting. Candidates with nonprofit accounting experience are encouraged to apply, but individuals with an accounting degree and foundational experience will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer financial tracking for grant-funded programs, ensuring expenditures are properly documented and recorded.
- Reconcile grant balances with general ledger accounts and prepare reimbursement requests according to established deadlines.
- Assist with monthly closing procedures, including payroll entries, adjusting journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate records of receivables, recurring expenses, prepaid expenses, and depreciation.
- Perform monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations and research any outstanding discrepancies.
- Review fee-for-service revenue and accounts receivable activity to ensure transactions are accurately recorded.
- Develop financial reports, including departmental budget-to-actual comparisons, for management review.
- Assist with preparing monthly financial reporting packages and analyzing account activity.
- Support year-end accounting functions, including accrual preparation and annual audit requests.
- Maintain organized financial documentation and assist with updating accounting procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred; recent graduates with relevant accounting exposure will be considered.
- Knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous nonprofit accounting experience.
- Exposure to grant accounting, financial reconciliations, and reimbursement reporting.
